The Real Dirk

Komponieren war schon immer meine Leidenschaft und ich empfinde es als einen wichtigen,
persönlichkeitsbildenden Teil von mir.
Im Laufe der letzten 40 Jahre hatte ich das Glück, dass viele Musiker und Musikerinnen meine Stücke mit mir gespielt haben und ich sie auf zahlreichen Alben veröffentlichen konnte. Es haben sich inzwischen sehr viele Werke angesammelt, was mich sehr freut. Ein Schüler brachte mich auf die Idee, sie zusammenzufassen und zu veröffentlichen.
Diese Zusammenstellung ist nur ein Teil meiner gesamten Kompositionen. Einige Stücke warten noch auf die Fertigstellung und wiederum andere sind für größere Besetzungen und eignen sich nicht für eine Kurzform. Meine Idee für dieses Songbook ist, sie in Form von spielbaren Lead Sheets zu veröffentlichen. Es gibt Versionen für C, Bb, Eb und Bass-Instrumente.
Viele Songs in diesem Heft sind noch nicht veröffentlicht und ich möchte sie gerne anderen Menschen zur Verfügung stellen. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn das ein oder andere Stück auf anderen Alben erscheinen würde oder einfach in einem Konzert oder zu einem anderen Anlass gespielt würde. Es interessiert mich, wie andere MusikerInnen mit meinen Stücken umgehen und wie sie sie interpretieren. Das finde ich das Spannende im Jazz - ein Stück ist nicht in Stein gemeißelt, sondern kann ein Ideengeber für eigene Interpretationen und
Improvisationen sein.
So ist das Songbook mein persönliches Real Book geworden und deswegen nenne ich es - The Real Dirk.
Vielen herzlichen Dank an die zahlreichen MusikerInnen, die die Stücke mit mir inspiriert und inspirierend geprobt,
aufgeführt oder aufgenommen haben. Durch sie sind die Songs gereift, und sie gaben mir immer wieder Ideen, wie ich die Musik verändern kann.
Fast alle Komposition sind komponiert und arrangiert von Dirk Strakhof. Sie sind bei der GEMA Deutschland angemeldet und registriert. Unexpected Turn ist von Dirk Strakhof und Volker Kottenhahn komponiert worden. Im Inhaltsverzeichnis befindet sich rechts die Angabe der Alben, auf denen ein großer Teil der Stücke erschienen ist.

The Real Dirk

Composing has always been my passion and I see it as an important, personality-building part of me.
Over the last 40 years, I have been lucky enough to have many musicians play my pieces with me and I have been able to release them on numerous albums. A lot of works have accumulated in the meantime, which makes me very happy. A student gave me the idea of compiling and publishing them.
This compilation is only a part of all my compositions. Some pieces are still waiting to be completed and others are for larger ensembles and are not suitable for a short form. My idea for this songbook is to publish them in the form of playable lead sheets. There is Versions for C, Bb, Eb and bass instruments.
Many of the songs in this booklet have not yet been published and I would like to make them available to other people. I would be delighted if one or two pieces were to appear on other albums or simply played in a concert or on another occasion. I'm interested in how other musicians deal with my pieces and how they interpret them.
That's what I find exciting about jazz - a piece is not set in stone, but can be a source of ideas for your own interpretations and improvisations.
So the songbook has become my personal Real Book and that's why I call it The Real Dirk.
Many thanks to the numerous musicians who rehearsed, performed or recorded the pieces with me in an inspired and inspiring way. Through them, the songs have matured and the musicians have always given me ideas on how to change the music.
Almost all the compositions were composed and arranged by Dirk Strakhof. They are registered with GEMA Germany. Unexpected Turn was composed by Dirk Strakhof and Volker Kottenhahn. The table of contents on the right shows the albums on which most of the pieces have appeared.
